aku-aku: v.. To move a tall, flat bottomed object (such as a bookshelf) by swiveling it alternatively on its corners in a "walking" fashion. [After the book by Thor Heyerdahl theorising the statues of Easter Island were moved in this fashion.] source: LangMaker.com. Aku Aku also has another meaning to the islanders: a spiritual guide.

File under: Thoughts

Traditional western news media tends to downplay tragedies suffered by arabic people in favor of Israel. This bias has lessened some in recent years, but the bias is still firmly on the pro-Israeli side. Frankly I never had a strong opinion on the middle east until I travelled there in December 2000 myself and viewed Israel and Palestine with my own eyes. The truth is not what is being spoon fed to us on CNN, but the truth is out there.

Here is a link to a site full of images of Palestinian loss. It is very graphic, and certainly propogandistic in captioning, but the images themselves have a stark veracity that shouldn't be ignored. This isn't for people with weak constitutions.

I've been to Isreal too... perhaps they wouldn't have to shoot and bomb back if the Palestines wouldn't strap bombs to teenagers and send them into crowded Jewish areas and blow the heads and limbs off Hebrew children. And BTW, if you look at what CNN and Time magazine write and show, it is not pro-Isreal. Indeed, there is a growing backlash against U.S. support for Isreal. In the last 20 years, the surrounding Arab countries have tried to annihilate Isreal half a dozen times for theological reasons. How would America respond if say, once a week, a couple bombs went off in crowded shopping areas in major U.S. cities??

America conquered it's land from the indigenous people over 200 years ago; Israel made the mistake of enacting the zionist takeover much later ...when the world was more "civilized" supposedly, but more importantly when the means of global attention was much more easily facilitated.

You should study your middle east history. The first terrorist activities (indiscriminate bombings of civilians in public places) in the middle east occured on November 11th 1937. Two people were killed at a bus depot near Jaffa Street in Jerusalem and five were wounded by the bomb. On November 14th more were killed in simultaneous attacks around the country. July 6 1938 a disguised terrorist in a Haifa market placed two milk cans full of TNT and shrapnel in a crowded market and killed 24, wounding 52. On July 25th another market bombing killed 39, wounded 70. On August 26th 24 killed amd 39 wounded. All of these bombing were carried out by the IZL. The Irgun Z'via Leumi. A Zionist organization. The arabs learned the effectiveness of terrorism the hard way.

Don't feel bad that you didn't know this. Most westerners don't. Like I said, you should study your history; this conflict goes back a long time.

Here's a good book, Righteous Victims: A History of the Zionist-Arab Conflict, 1881-2001, written by Benny Morris, an Israeli Jew. It is heavily cited and a lot of the interesting facts come from information de-classified because Israel is a democracy and they have something similar to the United States' Freedom of Information Act.

We've been taught a biased history by the Western Media ...you really have to go out of your way to find the truth, and most of us are too busy consuming to be bothered.

1937 isn't history, the Old Testament is. And true to the Biblical prophecy, this conflict [Israel/Arab] will continue till the end of time. Yes, I am aware of some of this history you mention. And no one is clean – pre-Protestant Catholicism and Crusades-Christianity alone is enough to make one realize the flaws of such zealous arrogance. The Jewish people have been hated since the beginning of time and have been butchered or thrown out of most countries they have established themselves in before becoming a state in 1948. Were it not for U.S. support, the surrounding Arab countries would have rolled in with tanks and wiped them out. For what? Because Allah promises heaven for killing Jews. Yes, I know, everyone has a claim to land of Jerusalem. A hundred years ago there were no great world powers in the region. Oil had not been discovered in Arabia and Iran. Jerusalem was a small slumbering insignificant town and the land was considered practically worthless (except for Jews because of Solomon’s Temple and the Arabs who believe Mohammed ascended to heaven on a horse there). Swiftly in the last half of our century Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Iran and the Emirates sprang into (modern/significant) existence out of nowhere. Now the region is heavily populated and everyone is intent on a search for his ancient roots. Nevertheless, I have zero sympathy for the surrounding Arab people. Theirs is a religion of hate, terror, and destruction. The Jewish religion is not.

The Koran, which is a required read for college freshmen now in some colleges (imagine the outcry if the Bible was forced on them?) is so full of holes and contradictions, not too mention three totally different versions of it, it has little credibility to be leading so many people around the world to such unified and zealous efforts – yet it does due to many factors: if born a Muslim, try leaving the faith and your own family will kill you; leave the faith and you're guaranteed eternity in Hell, etc.

I will check out this book recommendation of yours, and I would encourage you to check out a book recommendation of mine: Who Owns The Land? by Dr. Stanely Ellisen -

I believe that the Jews should stop killing innocent Arabic children.
