aku-aku: v.. To move a tall, flat bottomed object (such as a bookshelf) by swiveling it alternatively on its corners in a "walking" fashion. [After the book by Thor Heyerdahl theorising the statues of Easter Island were moved in this fashion.] source: LangMaker.com. Aku Aku also has another meaning to the islanders: a spiritual guide.

EFF housewarming

File under: Parties

I just stopped by the EFF Housewarming Party over in the Mission. Plenty of free vegetarian (falafel, mmm) food and beer (I didn't drink though, since I was on the motorcycle). Anyhow, I thought maybe Lawrence Lessig would be there, but I didn't see him. I briefly saw R.U. Sirius of Mondo 2000 fame. He's a friend of my ex-girlfriend but I haven't actually met him. I was going to introduce myself and get a picture with him to send to her (she's living in Austria now...there's a funny photo of the two of them still hanging in my house) but I lost him in the crowd, and it turned out my camera batteries were dead anyhow. I really could have used that Danger Hiptop I'm waiting for Amazon to ship.

Lessig will be speaking at next week's Creative Commons License Launch Party, so I can see him talk there. He's a great speaker.

Support the EFF! Do you spend as much to support your rights as you give to the companies that are trying to take them away from you? I give $25 each month (via automatic credit card payment) to the EFF.
